Level 8 - First jelly level

Jelly levels (also known as Clear all the jelly levels ) is one of the seven level types in Candy Crush Saga. This level type's icon is blue with a white square. Jelly levels first appear in Candy Town, the first episode, with the first jelly level being level 8. The panel shows how many jelly layers you need to clear [e.g. 45 jellies].

Jelly levels are the second most common level type in Reality, making up 28.27% of Reality levels. There are 3012 non-mixed appearances out of the 10655 levels. There are also 2546 mixed-mode levels requiring jelly, with a combined total of 5558 appearances.

Jelly levels are also the most common level type in Dreamworld, making up 45.71% all the levels, with 304 jelly levels of the 665 total levels.

On average, earlier episodes had 6-10 jelly levels. However, after Taffy Treetops, few episodes have more than 6 jelly levels. In the first four months of 2018, a handful of timed levels were changed into jelly levels. However, after the introduction of order-ingredients mixed levels, they start becoming less common due to the increased abundance of mixed levels. Currently, episodes have 2-3 (non-mixed) jelly levels on average.

Jelly levels were once considered the hardest level types, as many of the hardest levels, such as 1467, 1565, 1897, 1957, 2069, 2357, 2403, 2454, 2502, 2546, 2666, 2676, 3024, 3156, 3164, 3165, 3278, 3996, 5146, 6252, 8576, etc. are all jelly levels. For the most part, the early-mid jelly levels tend to be the type of levels that end up being marked extremely hard more commonly. The list can go on, as many non-infamous levels can turn out to be hard. If you don't clear all the jelly, you will fail the level.

To complete jelly levels, the player must remove all the jelly on the board. On many jelly levels, it is harder than it seems. The jelly is translucent in appearance, and can only be broken if a candy on the square with jelly is removed. Once all the jelly is removed, the player completes the level.

In level 9, double jellies are introduced. These jellies are white and take two hits to be destroyed. They can be very annoying when appearing in large numbers, but they are the norm in most of the jelly levels.

Jelly fish are helpful for this type of level, but it is not absolutely recommended to buy the booster. It can be helpful for very hard jelly levels since they can respawn multiple times within the move limit (spawn rate varies). If a jelly fish is destroyed, it will help clear 3 jelly squares. Another neat feature about them is that they can reach jellies behind blockers (except for liquorice swirls and liquorice locks).

If you use a jelly fish and combine it with a colour bomb, then 10-20 jelly fish (depends on the number of candy colours) of the same colour will spawn and go for the jellies. It has the same effect as in Candy Crush Soda and Jelly Saga.

When all jellies are eliminated, Sugar Crush is activated - 3 jelly fish per remaining move will swim onto the screen and eat random candies.

Web description [ ]

The board behind the candy is covered in jelly. Remove the jelly by matching candy on top of it. If you still have jelly left when you run out of moves, you will fail the level.

How to play (mobile)

How to play (old)

Jelly levels are consistently among the harder level types in this game. Many of the extremely hard levels are jelly levels. Some lesser known levels may not be the hardest, but generally harder than candy order or ingredients levels in comparison.

There are more double jellies in the game than single jellies. Higher levels very rarely have a requirement of regular jellies exclusively. Luckily, double jellies are the highest amount of jellies you have to clear in 1 square. However, levels with five-layered frosting require 7 hits to clear 1 block of double jelly, and a liquorice shell requires 3 special candy hits first.

The biggest issue when with dealing jelly levels is that you have to destroy the candy on top of the square. While it may sound easy, it is the most difficult task in the game, as, at times, it is hard to find a regular candy match in the corners, especially on the bottom or in small islands of tiles. In addition, there are plenty of jelly levels designed so that a normal candy match does not solve the problem and only a certain special candy will hit the square.

Jellies with no candy on top of it cannot be destroyed by lollipop hammers nor sweet teeth, and it also makes colour bombs harder to use effectively. However, other elements can still destroy jellies.

Jelly fish are provided in some levels. However, players must make very good use of them to win. Many times players lose the level because the jelly fish is set off at the wrong time and hits a square that can easily be cleared manually. The past version of level 342 is a great example of this, it requires luck for the jelly fish to hit the right square.

The abundance of levels requiring jelly is arguably the biggest reason why this game is hard. Players can be stuck at a jelly level for days if not weeks and months. Level 65 used to be the hardest level of all time, until it got nerfed. Level 147, another formerly infamous level, got a nerf even bigger than that of level 65. However, as more big nerfs came by, so did harder jelly levels.

Later episodes tend to have harder ingredients or candy order levels, similarly to jelly levels, which are especially troublesome when they are a part of mixed mode levels.

Dreamworld [ ]

How to play (Dreamworld, mobile)

Jelly levels were not as difficult in Dreamworld as they are in Reality. The main reason for this was that the moon struck cleared a lot of jellies due to massive cascades. This effect was stronger with 6-coloured levels as 2 candy colours would be removed from the board, causing lots of combinations. Also, a larger board created a bigger effect.

They often had fewer moves, because they did not require as many moves to finish as in Reality. Most hard jelly levels in reality were significantly easier in Dreamworld. The most notable levels in that regard were 65, 147, 197, 213, 275, etc.

However, there were also very difficult jelly levels in Dreamworld. These levels usually had at least one of the following features:

  • Their moon scale was extremely unstable (usually with only 8 candies for 5-colour levels or 7 candies for 6-colour levels at most).
  • Their moon struck was short.
  • The number of moves was far lower than their Reality counterpart (for example, level 116 and 338).

Trivia [ ]

Jelly icon.PNG
  • The jelly fish during Sugar Crush used to give a very high score. However, they were nerfed once and gave almost no points on Flash until the Fungi Forest update. No reason was given for this, but it used to make levels like 183 almost impossible. This change has never taken effect on mobile.
    • The nerfing of the jelly fish seems less critical on later levels which require plenty of moves to clear the jelly.
    • Starting with 1.60, mobile versions did not have jelly fish during sugar crush, but striped candies would spawn instead. It has been reverted since then.
  • On Flash, upon clearing all jellies, the jelly area of the board would shine after the clearing cascade.
  • On Flash, as well, the jelly level icon had only one jelly square.
  • There could be a level in the future with more jellies on the board than the number that is required.

The old map of Caramel Cove. Prior to the release of Sweet Surprise, the jelly level icon had a different design.

  • Before the release of Sweet Surprise, the icon of jelly levels on the map was different: a square with four smaller squares inside, one of them being shaded. This design is also used in HTML5.
  • Levels 50, 250, 450, 550, 750, 850, 950, 1050, 1150, and 1350 are all jelly levels, but levels 150 and 650 are candy order levels, 350 is a mixed level and 1250 is an ingredients level.
  • Levels 118, 418, 718, 1018, 1318, 1618, 2218, 2518 are all jelly levels, but 118 is a candy order level and 1918 and 2818 are ingredients levels.
  • Levels 470, 770, 1070, 1370, 1670 are all jelly levels, but 170 and 1970 are ingredients levels.
  • Jelly levels are the only ones where jelly fish can be used as a booster.
  • Jelly levels tend to be found in clusters. Clusters of 3 jelly levels are somewhat common. The largest cluster of jelly levels is 7 in Nerdy Nebula. Some episodes have clusters of 6 jelly levels, such as Glittery Grove.
  • Blueberry Brush, Kooky Kingdom and Praline Pavilion have only 1 jelly level that is not a mixed level.
  • All full-length worlds end with a jelly level except World 7 (Flash) and World 10, which are ingredients levels, and World 11, which is a candy order level.
  • Level 623 used to be a jelly level, but it was a duplicate of level 608. It was changed to an ingredients level when Bonkers Bakery was released.
  • The music used for the jelly levels on HTML5 is that of the ingredients levels on Flash version.
  • On Flash, jelly levels have the same music as what moves levels had on HTML5 prior to their removal.
  • There was a minor trend where very easy jelly levels in Reality were very hard or higher in Dreamworld.
  • Some timed levels in Reality were jelly levels in Dreamworld. 84, 151, 198, 204, 267, 343, 373, 433, 462, and 618 are examples.
  • Jelly levels are celebrated in Marmalade Moon: 1207 and 1220 both have blockers spelling out JELLY.
  • In the past, on the Flash version there wasn't an objective pane about the number of jellies remaining. This pane was added with the release of Scrumptious Studio.
    • Meanwhile, on HTML5, the objective pane showed the target score. When v1.71 was released, it also included the aforementioned change, but in the manner of a "remaining / total" format.
      • The format of level display changed once again in version 1.11x, now having a similar style to jelly in mixed levels.
    • In versions before 1.196, the objective pane did not distinguish single and double jellies, indicating the number of jelly squares instead of jelly layers. Therefore, a level with 81 double jellies remaining was listed as having 81 jellies, rather than 162 from version 1.196.

The jelly counter for level 696 shows "104" instead of "52" for 52 double jellies.

  • Candy Crush Jelly Saga also has a level type with the same name, jelly levels. However, the player must spread the jellies instead of removing them, and the mechanics make it even harder.
